On August 2, 2013, we submitted a proposal to be considered a topic level Network in ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education). ISTE has informed us that they due to recent changes they are not considering any new SIGs until after the 2014 conference and that the SIGs will now be called Networks. So we will be re-submitting the proposal as soon the new procedures are announced.
The primary purpose of the proposed Network is to identify and discuss trends in learning assessments and learner analytics in a safe environment where educators and administrators can openly discuss all types of assessments, learner analytics, measurement of mastery, badging, and deeper learning. We seek to support educators and administrators in the application and use of assessment instruments and strategies to inform practice in their efforts of preparing students for college and career readiness.
The mission of Analytics and Assessment Network is to support ISTE member’s professional growth and practice by hosting a professional learning environment that:
Connects professionals, educators, and researchers who share concerns, challenges and interests related to standardized and alternative assessment in education
Encourages the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and experiences to develop best practices
Support active participation in the creation of value added resources that address community needs
Create new content that increases awareness and acceptance of alternative assessment to better measure mastery of subject matter and competencies.
Explore emerging tools to assist educators with the important task of analytics and assessment.
Group Goals and Objectives
The primary goal of Analytics and Assessment Network is to investigate, apply and disseminate information as it relates to the topic of assessment and learner analytics. The group will concentrate on leveraging the use of technology for employing alternative ways to assess competencies, strategies, instruction, and share best practices.
As a proposed topic level Network, our initial organizational goals are:
Goal 1: Establish the Analytics and Assessment Network as a topic level Network
Goal 2: Establish a Professional Learning Community
Goal 3: Host a Birds of a Feather Session at the 2014 Annual Conference in Philadelphia
Goal 4: Develop monthly webinar series to deliver assessment and learner analytics professional development for educators and administrators at all levels of education.
